A stay at Meru Nest is more than just a place to sleep. The Meru Nest Experience is designed as a gentle introduction to life in northern Tanzania โ combining local food, local experiences and guided walks, and the calm atmosphere of our small house in the green hills of Sekei on the slopes of Mount Meru.
With only four guest rooms, Meru Nest remains intimate and personal, offering a peaceful setting where guests can slow down and experience everyday Tanzanian life.
Evenings at Meru Nest are quiet and relaxed, often spent around the outdoor fire while hornbills and ibis cross the evening sky above Arusha.
Meals are an important part of the Meru Nest Experience.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are freshly prepared at the house and served as a daily buffet of local Tanzanian dishes, prepared with seasonal ingredients. Many ingredients are sourced from small neighbourhood vendors and local shops, reflecting the everyday flavours of the region.
Meals are served in our open-air restaurant, creating a relaxed atmosphere where guests can slow down and enjoy the evening after a day of travel or exploration.
Each night of your stay includes one guided activity, designed to connect guests with the landscape and everyday life around the Nest.
Birdwatching Walks
Gentle walks through the green hills around Meru Nest, where hornbills, ibis and many other bird species can often be seen.
Themi / Napuru Waterfall Walk
A scenic walk through the surrounding hills leading to a hidden local waterfall.
Village Walk
A walk through the neighbourhood offering a closer look at everyday life in Sekei and the small local shops nearby.
Village Walk & Cooking Class
A village walk combined with a cooking experience, starting with a walk through the neighbourhood to buy ingredients together with the guide before returning to the house to prepare traditional Tanzanian dishes.
These experiences take place in the immediate surroundings of the Nest and offer a slower and more personal way to explore the area.
At Meru Nest, even bathing becomes part of the experience.
Guests are invited to try our traditional bucket shower bath ritual with warm water and salt, using a natural luffa sponge and volcanic lava stone for a refreshing cleansing ritual inspired by local traditions.
Evenings at Meru Nest are quiet and relaxed, often spent around the outdoor fire while hornbills and ibis cross the evening sky above Arusha.
These simple moments are often the most memorable part of a stay.
For guests wishing to explore further, we can organise larger excursions with our trusted local partners, including visits to Arusha National Park, Mount Meru climbs, or **day hikes on Mount Kilimanjaro.
These excursions are not part of the Meru Nest Experience and must be arranged before arrival.
