Life at Meru Nest

Meru Nest offers a collection of thoughtfully designed shared spaces where guests can relax, connect, and slow down.

At the heart of the house is our African-inspired restaurant tent, combining the atmosphere of a safari camp with the comfort of a boutique retreat. The space is decorated with large traditional masks, natural jute fabric forming a soft ceiling, and generous lampshades crafted from woven baskets. Rustic wooden tables and locally made chairs with leather details create a warm, grounded setting. An open outdoor kitchen adjoins the tent, allowing guests to experience meals prepared in a relaxed, open atmosphere.

Outside, the fireplace terrace invites quiet evenings by the fire, overlooking the lights of Arusha after sunset. It is a calm space to unwind, share stories, or simply enjoy the warmth and night air.

The property features a garden with seating areas, as well as a covered sitting area at the front of the house, ideal for reading, resting, or observing daily life in the neighborhood.

Inside the main house, guests can use the comfortable lounge, furnished with handcrafted pieces, natural materials, and soft lighting — a place to feel at home, especially during cooler evenings.

For convenience and peace of mind, Meru Nest provides private parking and on-site security, ensuring a relaxed and secure stay throughout the day and night.

Our Rooms

At Meru Nest, there are no room numbers and no standard rooms.
Each room carries the name of a local bird and reflects its own character, light, and rhythm — shaped by the house and its surroundings rather than by uniform design.

Our rooms are designed as calm, intimate retreats, where atmosphere and intention matter more than size or formality. Natural materials, soft earth tones, and handmade details create a warm, understated environment that feels personal, grounded, and quietly refined.

Instead of conventional hotel bedding, fabrics are chosen to complement each room’s colours, textures, and mood — subtle, tactile, and thoughtfully composed.

The bathrooms follow the same philosophy of simplicity and authenticity. Newly tiled and equipped with modern rain showers, they are clean, functional, and intentionally understated. Hammerkop Room

The Hammerkop Room is a calm, thoughtfully designed room with a warm atmosphere and access to a private covered terrace.

The room measures approximately 14 sqm and features a 6 × 7 ft bed with a mosquito net, dressed in high-quality linens and carefully selected textiles. Natural materials and soft tones create a relaxed, intimate setting, well suited for unwinding after travel or safari days.

The private bathroom, located across the corridor for exclusive use, is newly tiled and equipped with a modern rain shower. Alongside the shower, the bathroom includes a local bathing ritual with a bucket and ladle, coarse salt, and cloves — elements traditionally used in Tanzania for grounding and cleansing. Slippers, a hairdryer, natural soap, a loofah sponge, and a volcanic stone for foot care are provided.

An additional small room with a 4 × 6 ft bed can be booked together with the Hammerkop Room. In this case, the bathroom across the corridor is shared exclusively between these two rooms, making it suitable for friends or family traveling together.

The Hammerkop Room is ideal for guests who appreciate outdoor space, privacy, and a locally inspired stay rather than conventional hotel layouts.

Heron Room

The Heron Room is a light-filled, thoughtfully designed room with a calm, balanced atmosphere.
